Leadership

Ms. Nicole Black
Principal

Greetings West Elementary Familes,

I am Nicole Black, and it is with great honor and gratitude that I assume the role of principal at West Elementary School for the 2024-2025 academic year. With over thirteen years in education, I bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to our school community. My journey began as a first-grade teacher in a Title 1 school after earning a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama. I later pursued an M.Ed. in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama, enriching my understanding of student needs across diverse settings.

Throughout my career, I have served in various capacities including as a reading and math intervention specialist, school counselor, assistant principal, and principal. My leadership philosophy emphasizes collaboration and a student-centered approach, perfectly aligned with West's values and aspirations. Outside of education, I find joy in reading, traveling, learning piano, designing shirts, and cherishing family moments.

Having grown up in a small Alabama town, I deeply value community, hard work, and dedication. I firmly believe in placing students at the heart of our educational endeavors. Their academic success and well-being guide every decision we make as educators. By fostering strong partnerships among families, the school, and the community, we can empower every child to achieve greatness.

I eagerly anticipate working alongside each of you—families, staff, and students—to build upon West's legacy of excellence and to reach new heights together.

Let's Go Team West!
