Teacher Certification - FGCU

B.A. in Jounalism and Spanish - Elon University, N.C.

Masters of Education in TESOL - Grand Canyon Unversity, AZ

I've been working at West for 18 years. I was the Bilingual Specialist for about 10 years, a first grade teacher for six, the Reading Lab teacher for one and am excited to be starting my second year teaching third grade.

I've been teaching at West Elementary for more than 16 years.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Spanish from Elon University in North Carolina. After writing for the Sun Coast Media Group for a few years, I earned my Elementary Teaching certificate at Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fl.

I have a Masters of Education. My degree will be in Teaching English as a Second Language.

I teach because I strongly feel it is a calling. One of my last journalism assignments was spent in Mexico at an orphanage. My week there changed how I looked at my life's purpose.

One child in particular caught my attention and held my heart in his tiny, dusty hands. His name was Alfredo. He was six and zoomed around me with casual indifference but his hugs, although short lived, were fierce and told me his true feelings.

Our conversations were brief, honest and frequent.  He captured my heart.

I enjoyed being a reporter but I love working with children.
