Welcome back to school! I am looking forward to an exciting year teaching you to create, appreciate and enjoy art. Art is crucial at every age. It allows students to enhance problem-solving and critical thinking skills, create new ways to visualize; all while complementing what we learn in other academic subjects.

We will look at, talk, and write about major works, styles of art, as well as create our own masterpieces using the elements and principles of design. We will study various artists, art styles and cultures from around the world. All our art lessons are correlated to the Sunshine State Standards and efforts will be made to align art lessons with the academic core curriculum.

Collaboration during art class takes lots of mutual work. It is often a busy place and students will help me follow an effective class management strategy that will allow us to use our space and time efficiently. Students will follow routine procedures, take great care of our materials, and most importantly, be respectful and responsible to all peers.

Please feel free to visit your child’s art education classroom at any time. We do many fun and innovative activities throughout the year. Ask your child about their experiences in art and let them share the knowledge they have learned.

Due to the nature of creating art, students should wear old shirts on art days. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail me at school.
